The tiny speck of a girl drags her father out into the garden. Her dark curls bounce behind her. She tugs at his arms and shoulders, pulling them down until his tall frame is nearly doubled in half. She stands on tiptoe and locks her sticky toddler hands around his neck. She whispers and buzzes in his ear. He smiles gently and sweeps her small body up to cradle her in his strong arms. She giggles. Her father carries her around the side of the house, to a small patch of bare dirt. He sets her down gently. Her feet touch the ground like a butterfly alighting on a flower.
